Reward
|

- Vocal Rewards
- Body Gestures
- Avoid Food Rewards
Use ample voice and gesture
rewards, like
petting and praise. Avoid giving food rewards for just any good behavior,
rather save treats for specific training.
Don't
fatten your dog by overfeeding. You should adjust meals to account
for the additional treats while training.

Your dogs by nature want to please you. Special attention, with
vocalizations, petting and massage become the best rewards. Playing
fetch and performing tricks / tasks actually becomes a reassuring bond
with
your dogs. Routine time spent in these activities is very important.
Dogs depend on routines and are often upset when routine activities
abruptly stop. Leave your dog while on a vacation or
extended trip with someone who knows your play routine and will spend
time soothing your dog with petting and stroking.
