*You can wait until 8 weeks to begin first set of shots.  Do not give rabies at this time.   They are too young!  Immunizations are given every  three weeks.   In this case shots would be given at 8, 11, and 14 weeks.

Five in one includes- Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus infection, Distemper, and Modified live virus-   You must give two shots after 12 weeks of age.

Rabies – Give first shot, and then give following year, then every 2-3 years depending on county rules.   Check with your vet.

De wormer-You can start most preventatives such as Interceptor or Heart Guard Plus at 8 or 9 weeks old.  Once you start them, discontinue use of de-wormer.  Give preventative once a month.  I use Interceptor because it covers more worms, but contact your vet for his/her advice.  Dosage is given according to the weight of your dog.  For the correct dosage please check with your vet.

Heartworm test- yearly/bi yearly-

Please do not take your new pet into a public place until he/she has had at least three sets of immunizations, because the puppy is not fully protected until that time.

*I give my adult dogs Bordatellosis as well as the other immunizations which is a preventative against kennel cough.  However, speak to your vet to see if he/she feels it is necessary for your animal.

*My vet does not recommend giving shots to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for Leptospirosis due to allergic reactions in small breeds of dogs.

*Other immunizations such as Corona Virus, Giardia and Lyme disease should be carefully researched before given due to the discrepancies regarding the necessity of the immunizations and the possible long term side effects to the drugs.

*This is a guideline.  Please check with your vet about what is best for your dog.
